I would like to talk a little about one of the easiest things you can do to help promote your site. There is not to much easier to do than directory submission. I came accross a large list of directories with thier pr information. I will share this with you at the end.
I try to spend some time each week and even daily when I can doing some submissions. I believe if you get your site listed on some decent directories it will do wonders for your page rank(pr) and if your lucky you might even get some traffic out of it.
To make this easier I have been searching for programs to help. I came accross one at http://www.linkdirectories.org/automatic-directory-submission.html This is the first and only one I have tried so if you know of a better one please post it. This one allows you to add your sites and site profiles to the program and it lists a bunch of directories. You click on the directoriy you want to submit to and it will take you there. You then find your category and when you get to the submission page you click on the submit button on the program and it lays out all your info so you don’t have to list it manually. It does save lots of time but it is not exactly what I was thinking of when I thought of auto submission. Just the same though it does save time…
Speaking of directories here is a great one www.afreeurl.info It does get tons of traffic.
Now we have talked about directories but there are other sites too that you can submit your link too. I think a great way to get your banner out there to get some traffic is topsite lists. There are many out there with tons of traffic.
The topic today is SEO and Directory submission so I guess we should talk a bit about seo. Today I just want to stay in the theme of simple things that can be done easily by anyone.
One of the simplest and most effective things you can do to your site to help get indexed into the search engines is alt text tags for your images. Make sure every image has alt text. It is a simple thing to do that will help. Of course there are meta tags too which do not play a huge part in seo but just the same, it is simple to have decent meta tags. Each and every page on your site should have it’s own individual meta tag.
I wonder how many sites out there do not have a robots.txt file? How hard is it to create one? Do yourself a favor and make one.
The biggest thing any site can have is content, content, content…. Nothing helps your site get into search engines like a good mixture of back links and a site filled with nice clean content. Add content where ever you can and it will pay…
Something I have recently started doing is sitemap generation. I also do this for some of my service plan clients. This is very simple too. There are many scripts that will do this for you automatically or you can find some that will let you do it manually. Either way I think it is a great way to help get listed.

http://www.afreeurl.info – This is our biggest and highest traffic directory and is a good bet for your site. Currently PS is low due to a minor issue we had when upgrading script but our PR should be back soon. We often use paid promotions to bring traffic here.
